MIXED

Fish Oil Supplements for Heart Health

RESEARCH

  • EPA-only formulations show promise for high-risk patients, but standard fish oil blends haven't prevented heart events in most major trials.

COMMUNITY

  • Users report mixed results: some see real benefits like better dry eyes, others notice nothing, and there's concern about potential risks like atrial fibrillation.

SAFETYFish oil may increase bleeding risk and interact with blood thinners; check with a doctor if on anticoagulants.

COMMUNITY SENTIMENT

55% positive

My dry eyes are so much better. Took about 3-4 months of taking it consistently every day, but I no longer struggle to open my eyes when I wake up. Before fish oil, I would have to flush my eyes with saline or eye drops to be able to open them without pain. Eye vitamins weren't helping, using gel eyedrops helped a little, but didn't last. Fish oil works.

>but my LDL levels aren't THAT bad. It isn't about cholesterol; it's about heart health. According to this [study](https://bmjmedicine.bmj.com/content/3/1/e000451): >**Conclusions** > >Regular use of fish oil supplements might be a risk factor for atrial fibrillation and stroke among the general population but could be beneficial for progression of cardiovascular disease from atrial fibrillation to major adverse cardiovascular events, and from atrial fibrillation to death.

I notice absolutely nothing, but i still keep taking it.
