Glutathione for Acne Marks
RESEARCH
- Glutathione shows promise for hyperpigmentation but lacks direct evidence for atrophic scars and fibrosis.
COMMUNITY
- Works better for pigmentation than scars; IV beats oral, but absorption and individual response vary widely.
SAFETYIntravenous glutathione carries serious risks including anaphylaxis and hepatotoxicity; oral forms have poor absorption.
WHAT THE RESEARCH SAYS
ALL 15 ON PUBMED ↗Oral glutathione shows variable but significant melanin reduction with limited side effects, though absorption from GI tract is poor.
view on pubmed ↗Glutathione's role in ferroptosis resistance may relate to fibrosis, but evidence for direct antifibrotic effect on dermal remodeling remains unclear.

IV much more drastic than oral.”
U/VINTAGE-COLA ↗“I can only speak to the injectable version but yes, it does help clean up liver labs. My ast and atl values have improved while taking 250mg EOD. I take glutathione EOD and only for a two week period at a time with a 4-6 week break. I notice that it does cause some minor bruising when injected subq. I also take NAC daily. I have the MTHFR Gene mutation and noticed that my liver labs have significantly improved from taking NAC daily. I do not cycle NAC. I have been taking it daily for 5 years now.”
U/LAWLERFIT ↗“For the past 16 years, cellular glutathione support has been at the core of my health, and I have researched it heavily. I have a background in clinical research, trained in genetics and nutrition. We decline in cellular production of glutathione beginning in our 20s. Some of us genetically do not produce optimal levels because of our genetic variants. That said, taking bioavailable cysteine is the key to raising cellular levels. Don't waste your money on oral glutathione. It doesn't get absorbed. The most widely used cysteine is NAC, but not all of us can take it.”
